Strategies for Combating Health Disparities Today
National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month is observed each July to bring awareness to the unique struggles that racial and ethnic minority communities face regarding mental illness in the United States. For example, the COVID-19 pandemic has made it harder for racial and ethnic minority groups to get access to mental health and substance-treatment services, according to the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Minority Health.
Health systems have begun to recognize racism as a public health crisis, as the disproportionate impact of the pandemic has laid bare severe disparities afflicting communities of color. Yet, few know what it means to plan and execute initiatives that will have measurable, sustained impacts on inequity and the social causes of poor health outcomes.
In recognition of National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, ACHE is offering the on-demand course “Leadership Insights: Strategies for Combating Health Disparities” free of charge for a limited time only. Available in our recorded content library, this session features the leaders of three major provider systems working to eliminate systemic inequities in their organizations and across the communities they serve. This session focuses on the challenges of implementing new policies and practices to build an inclusive workplace culture and eliminating healthcare disparities, while at the same time forming community partnerships aimed at creating community health equity.
Between July 11 and Aug. 10, this course is free of charge. Simply enter the discount code JULYPERK2022 when you register online. And, be sure to check out all of ACHE’s other on-demand digital learning offerings. We hope you enjoy this Monthly Membership Perk, and we thank you for being a part of the ACHE community.
