Join ACHE and Columbia University for a Unique Two-Day Program
Beginning this summer and fall, you can experience the challenges of executive leadership and strategic decision-making with the Health System Simulation Program. Offered in collaboration with Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, this unique two-day learning experience emulates the full breadth and complexity of leadership in today’s competitive marketplace. Using the Health System Simulation curriculum from the Mailman School of Public Health, participants will work in teams of six to seven members, acting as the executive leadership team of a hospital participating in a multihospital market. They will be required to analyze the position of their institution and to make all decisions central to the successful management of the hospital. The team-based simulation experience is supported by group and team work sessions, readings, lectures, discussions and presentations.
The first two virtual sessions will be offered Aug. 18–20 and Sept. 22–24, with additional sessions to be added throughout the year. Course participants can earn a total of 21 ACHE Face-to-Face Education and Interprofessional Continuing Education credits. Learn more and register today.

Time Is Running Out to Nominate Your Peers for Our Most Prestigious Awards
Don’t wait until it’s too late to nominate deserving colleagues for our highest honor—the Gold Medal Award. Our Gold Medal Award is the most prestigious award we bestow on outstanding leaders who have made significant contributions to the healthcare profession. This award identifies Fellows who best exemplify leadership at the organizational, local, state/provincial and national levels, and who continually contribute to the improvement of the delivery of healthcare services and community health. We may give up to two Gold Medal Awards each year: one to an outstanding executive in a healthcare delivery organization, and the second to an executive in a nondelivery healthcare organization, such as an alliance, association, university, consulting firm, etc. The deadline for submission of the nomination packet is Aug. 16.
Nominations for two other awards—the Lifetime Service and Achievement Award and the Robert S. Hudgens Memorial Award for Young Healthcare Executive of the Year—are both due July 16. The Lifetime Award recognizes Life Fellows and Retired Fellows who have made outstanding, nationally recognized contributions to advance the profession of healthcare management and ACHE. The Hudgens Award recognizes early careerists for outstanding achievements in the field of healthcare management.

Book: How Your Healthcare Organization Can Strategize for an Uncertain Future
Before beginning strategic planning, leadership teams need to assess how they will achieve an unconstrained, creative mind-set among team members, which is critical for a robust strategic plan, says author Jim Austin in chapter 1 of his book Transformative Planning: How Your Healthcare Organization Can Strategize for an Uncertain Future. This Health Administration Press title explains how leadership teams can lay the groundwork for new, transformational healthcare delivery models while simultaneously meeting the requirements of today. CMS Issues Proposed Rule to Improve Home Health Services
A recently proposed rule would accelerate the shift from volume-based incentives to quality- and value-based incentives for home health services, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced June 28. The proposal also seeks feedback on ways to attain health equity for all patients through policy solutions, including enhancing reports on Medicare/Medicaid dual eligible, disability status, people who are LGBTQ+; religious minorities; people who live in rural areas; and people otherwise adversely affected by persistent poverty or inequality.
The 2022 Home Health Prospective Payment System proposed rule addresses challenges facing Americans with Medicare who receive healthcare at home. It also outlines nationwide expansion of the Home Health Value-Based Purchasing Model to incentivize quality of care improvements without denying or limiting coverage or provisions of Medicare benefits for all Medicare consumers, and updates to payment rates and policies under the Home Health Prospective Payment System.
You can find more details on the proposed rule here and in the fact sheet.
