Program Spotlight: First Day of Congress 2021 a Success

The 2021 Congress on Healthcare Leadership was off to a fantastic start today with a number of “can’t miss” sessions and opportunities to connect virtually with other healthcare professionals. Some of today’s noteworthy events included the Parker B. Francis Distinguished Lecture with robotics and healthcare innovator Keller Rinaudo and the Arthur B. Bachmeyer Memorial Address with surgeon and renowned writer Atul Gawande, MD.

If you haven’t already registered for Congress, there’s still time to do so and attend other sessions you don’t want to miss. Highlights for the rest of the week include tomorrow’s Malcolm T. MacEachern Memorial Address “Political Outlook 2021” with pundit Amy Walter, the Wednesday Fireside Chat with top U.S. infectious disease expert Anthony S. Fauci, MD, and Thursday’s Modern Healthcare Hall of Fame Awards and Closing Keynote Address with healthcare innovator Indu Subaiya, MD.

Once you are registered for Congress, be sure to explore all that this year’s event has to offer on our virtual Congress platform, such as the many ACHE resources available in the Solutions Center and opportunities to connect with other attendees through features like Chapter Chat and Congress Connect.

We hope this year’s Congress is helping you to re-imagine leadership, solutions and healthcare together in this unique virtual environment. To register and learn more, please visit ache.org/Congress.

Attaining Fellow Status May Be Closer Than You Realize

Did you know that as a member, you can become board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow with one year of membership tenure? As of Jan. 1, the membership tenure requirement for initial Fellow advancement is now one year instead of three years for ACHE Members, Faculty Associates and International Associates. We hope this change will make attaining Fellow status possible for more members who wish to reach this important leadership level.

Fellow candidates must still meet all of the other eligibility requirements to attain the FACHE® credential—one of the most recognized and respected symbols of a leader’s competency and commitment to healthcare leadership excellence. For example, candidates must hold an executive-level healthcare management position and have a minimum of five years of healthcare management experience. Practical Strategies for Critical Decisions

Decision-making in today’s volatile healthcare environment can have high-stakes implications for healthcare leaders, the organizations they lead, and the patients and communities they serve. Having a framework can help executives develop solid principles for making operationally and morally sound decisions. During this interactive online seminar, expert faculty Frankie Perry, RN, LFACHE, will lead participants in analyzing real case studies on current topics such as sexual harassment and medical errors. In studying others’ decision-making, attendees will gain strategies to achieve better outcomes in their own organizations.

Registration for this six-week program includes the third edition of Perry’s book, The Tracks We Leave: Ethics and Management Dilemmas in Healthcare. Participants who take this online seminar from April 7 through May 26 can earn up to 6 ACHE Qualified Education credits. Learn more and register today.

Advancing Diverse Mid-Careerists With the Career Accelerator Program

Mid-careerists from racially, ethnically and LGBTQ-diverse backgrounds can soon apply to an exciting new ACHE career development program. The application period for the inaugural Career Accelerator Program will be open from April 5 through May 14. Since 2014, the Thomas C. Dolan Executive Diversity Program has helped to prepare senior-level healthcare careerists from underrepresented groups to ascend to and advance in the C-suite of hospitals, health systems and other healthcare organizations. This year, ACHE re-envisioned the EDP to expand its reach and impact with the addition of the Career Accelerator Program.

This new program was designed in recognition of the complex professional and personal environments that healthcare professionals are striving to navigate in 2021, and to empower mid-level careerists to advance to higher leadership roles. Both the EDP and CAP provide education, mentoring and networking experience, but there are a few differences between the two programs, which you can learn about here.

To apply to the CAP, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a master’s or other post-baccalaureate degree.
  • Have a minimum of five years of management experience with at least three years in healthcare management.
  • Be employed by a hospital, health system or other healthcare organization, and have strong potential for moving into or advancing in the C-suite (alternately, applicants must have been employed in a healthcare management role within the past three years).

Integrating Global Trends With New Digital Self-Study Course

The healthcare field isn’t immune to the effects of globalization, and organizations must be increasingly agile in evaluating global trends and adapting to them. One of ACHE’s new Digital Self-Study Courses, “Integrating Global Trends Into Your Organization’s Strategic Planning Course,” will help participants evaluate whether their organizations are prepared to respond to such trends while earning 6 ACHE Qualified Education credit hours from the convenience of their computer or mobile device.

Based on Health Administration Press book The Future of Healthcare: Global Trends Worth Watching, this course will also help participants determine how to better position their organizations for the future of healthcare and identify potential weaknesses. For more information about Digital Self-Study Courses, visit ache.org/SelfStudy. For any questions, please email selfstudy@ache.org.
