Congress Speaker Proposals Due June 3
Leaders and experts interested in presenting at the 2025 Congress on Healthcare Leadership should submit a speaker proposal by Monday, June 3.
ACHE’s marquee event gathers healthcare leaders to share knowledge, deliver best practices and connect as a community. Next year’s Congress will be held March 24–27 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
Congress sessions focus on the experiences of healthcare leaders, enterprise decision-makers, or those implementing new technologies or processes. Proposals generally should be consistent with that focus and relevant to trends in healthcare. Additionally, proposals should provide tools and take-aways for participants of the session and not contain commercial content.
If you have questions about submitting a proposal for next year’s Congress, email the ACHE Congress team.
Compensation Trends Revealed in Survey
ACHE has released the findings of its most recent Postgraduate Fellowship Compensation Survey, which provides current information to health administration students, faculty and fellowship sponsors about compensation and benefit trends among postgraduate fellowship programs in healthcare management. The findings compared results from the original study conducted in 2016. Click here to view the complete results.
Summer Issue of Frontiers Focuses on Data
The summer issue of Frontiers of Health Services Management dives into data with Tina Esposito, FACHE, SVP/chief data officer, Advocate Health, Downers Grove, Ill., who shares how her organization is reframing management practices to fully realize the promise of data.
Annie Steelman, DBA, FACHE, SVP, system strategy, RWJBarnabas Health, West Orange, N.J., addresses a vexing issue: performance data that is plentiful but not user-friendly.
Stephen H. Liebowitz, DHA, managing consultant at Berkeley Research Group, Chicago, and Matthew Robertson, chief administrative officer, Phoebe Physician Group in Albany, Ga., review their successful response to the costly problem of patient no-shows.
Finally, Maulik S. Joshi, DrPH, president/CEO of Meritus Health, Hagerstown, Md., and Carly N. Critchfield, administrative fellow, present a case study on how their system drives data-informed decision-making at every level. To read more, visit ache.org/Journals.
Choosing to Pursue the FACHE® Credential?
For anyone still considering whether to pursue the FACHE credential, hear what some colleagues have to say. Andrew S. Mullins, FACHE, CEP, Lifeline of Ohio (Columbus), asserts, “Find out what you need to do now to be able to become a Fellow. You'll never regret it.”
Angela R. DeLaere, FACHE, president/CEO, Visiting Nurse Association & Blue Water Hospice, Port Huron, Mich., echoes this sentiment, “Fellowship status has helped me in my career.” DeLaere doesn’t believe that she would be at this point in her career without Fellowship status.
If you have questions about earning this credential, register for a complimentary FACHE overview webinar set for June 13. Participants will get a complete overview of the process, including eligibility requirements, materials needed for the application process and information about how to prepare for the Board of Governors Exam. Participants can also ask questions during the presentation.
This session will help you decide if now is the right time to pursue the FACHE credential. Although the webinar is free, registration is required. Learn more and register today.
Help Shape ACHE’s Policy Statements
Members are invited to provide comments and feedback on seven ACHE policy statements, the Code of Ethics and ACHE’s Statement on Diversity. Comments should be emailed to the policy statement review team by June 28.
Each year, ACHE reviews select policy statements to ensure their continued relevance to the field. Along with the Code of Ethics and Statement on Diversity, the following seven policy statements are under review this year:
- Adopting a Systematic Approach to Bringing Healthcare Executives Into a New Position or Organization
- Appropriate Preparation for Healthcare Executive Management Positions for All New Entrants to the Field
- Decisions Near the End of Life
- Organ/Tissue/Blood/Blood Stem Cells Donation Process
- Responsibility for Mentoring
- The Role of the Healthcare Executive of a Nonprofit Entity in a Change in Organizational Ownership or Control
- Strengthening Healthcare Employment Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities
The Board of Governors will discuss these statements and any recommended revisions during its December meeting. The revised statements will be posted on ache.org in early 2025.
Business Unusual: Collaborating for New Approaches to Support Health Systems
Every health system leader knows that staying current with lab technology and regulatory compliance can be time-consuming and challenging, requiring significant personnel and experience. This can be especially difficult for smaller health systems and labs. As a result, many hospital labs may need help proactively identifying and implementing the latest testing equipment and testing protocols while ensuring proactive compliance with regulation.
Technology is only helpful if it’s effective. That’s why it’s important to understand which technologies can help you achieve your organizational goals and which can’t, according to the article “When Should Health Systems Invest in New Tech?” from the November 2020 issue of Harvard Business Review. For example, smart telehealth solutions can improve the healthcare experience for patients, giving them greater control over their health. For clinicians, carefully chosen EHR and other associated solutions can support clinical-care decisions, free up clinician time and help them provide the best possible care. For your lab, working with a partner can help identify missing information to ensure the right test is ordered for the right patient and at the right time.
The importance of understanding collaborative solutions is the topic of an upcoming complimentary webinar, “Business Unusual: Unlocking strategic ways to manage blood supply and improve patient care,” at 11 a.m. Central time June 12. Click here to learn more.
