Program Spotlight:

Return to In-Person Learning With New Options

In our latest episode of the Healthcare Executive Podcast, experts Laurie K. Baedke, FACHE, FACMPE, and Natalie D. Lamberton, FACHE, discuss the latest challenges and opportunities for emerging leaders. Baedke, who is director of Healthcare Leadership Programs at Creighton University, and Lamberton, who is CEO of Talas Harbor Healthcare, are co-authors of the book The Emerging Healthcare Leader: A Field Guide, which is now available as an audio book. They are also leading a one-day session by the same title as their book at the Chicago Cluster, Dec. 13–14, at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

During the cluster, attendees have a new option of taking two one-day, six-hour seminars—including Baedke and Lamberton’s session—each eligible for 6 ACHE Face-to-Face Education credits. Alternately, attendees can take one of four two-day seminars, each eligible for 12 ACHE Face-to-Face Education credits. Please visit the Chicago Cluster webpage to learn more about the event and to register. Information about our COVID-19 vaccination policy can be found here.

Improving Health Outcomes With Advanced Diagnostics

Though the COVID-19 pandemic has put the value of diagnostics in the spotlight, advanced diagnostic solutions have always played a critical role in disease prevention, diagnosis and monitoring. In fact, according to the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, in vitro diagnostics influence approximately 70% of all clinical decision-making, despite accounting for only about 2% of total healthcare spending.

Whether it’s an infectious disease like COVID-19 or Zika virus, prenatal testing, cancer or other serious health threats, solving healthcare’s greatest challenges depends on in vitro diagnostics.

Consider this:

  • According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, by 2040, the global cancer burden is expected to reach 27.5 million new cases worldwide. In vitro diagnostics can help catch cancer early, often before it advances, and help inform the treatment decision-making process for clinicians.
  • Similarly, the World Heart Failure Alliance found that heart failure affects more than 25 million people worldwide. With advanced testing, such as our Elecsys NT-proBNP test, doctors can create personalized treatment plans to help reduce mortality and morbidity.
  • And, when it comes to preeclampsia, a life-threatening condition occurring in pregnant women and the second-most common cause of maternal death, biomarker testing enables physicians to reliably exclude or predict the development of the disease, potentially saving the lives of mothers and their babies.

These are just a few examples of how diagnostics is changing the care landscape for the good of patients. Looking ahead, advanced diagnostics will undoubtedly play a significant role in the future of healthcare, helping patients live better, longer lives.
