Program Spotlight:

Registration Opens Wednesday for the 2022 Congress on Healthcare Leadership

Registration for ACHE’s 2022 in-person Congress on Healthcare Leadership and our new Virtual Leadership Symposium will open Wednesday, Dec. 1. We invite you to join leaders from across the care continuum March 28–31 to advance healthcare for the patients and communities we serve. As healthcare’s premier education and networking event, Congress 2022 will feature more than 130 sessions to choose from and the opportunity to earn up to 12 ACHE Face-to-Face Education credits. The safety of our Congress participants, faculty, exhibitors and staff remains a top priority, and COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place as described in the Congress FAQs.

In addition to Congress, we are also offering a Virtual Leadership Symposium April 11–12, which will feature unique content and the opportunity to earn up to 6 ACHE Face-to-Face Education credits. Those who are interested in attending only the Virtual Leadership Symposium can opt to register for that event separately. However, Congress registrants are welcome to maximize their experience by attending both events. Those who choose this option can receive a discounted registration to the Virtual Leadership Symposium by adding the event to their in-person Congress registration before March 31.

Register before the early bird deadline of March 7 to save $300. Visit ache.org/Congress to learn more.

Tomorrow, You Are Invited to Participate in the Giving Movement

Please join the #GivingTuesday movement tomorrow and make a tangible difference for the future of healthcare. On this special day, consider donating to the Foundation of ACHE's Fund for Healthcare Leadership by visiting ache.org/GivingTuesday. Your contribution, no matter the size, supports our mission to develop the next generation of executives and leaders through scholarships and other vital resources, including the Thomas C. Dolan Executive Diversity and Career Accelerator Programs, as well as the Executive Program. Donations to the Fund gave Dolan scholars like Rani Morrison, FACHE, the opportunity to experience self-discovery, mentorship, connection with peers and professional growth, which you can read about tomorrow on the ACHE Blog.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the United States), #GivingTuesday has inspired giving around the world, resulting in greater donations and philanthropic activities that bring about real change in communities.

Tomorrow, join the giving movement and help strengthen the future of healthcare by donating to the Fund at ache.org/GivingTuesday. We also invite you to share what motivates you to donate by using #MyGivingStory on social media.

Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late—Recertify Your FACHE® Today

If you are an ACHE Fellow whose credential is set to expire this year, now is the time to recertify. This includes Fellows whose credentials were set to expire in 2020 who were granted an extended deadline of Dec. 31, 2021. Don’t delay. ACHE encourages Fellows who have met the requirements to recertify now. In addition, any continuing education hours and volunteer activities earned during the remainder of the year—after you have recertified—may count toward your next recertification cycle. Fellows can recertify in three easy steps:

  • Complete 36 hours of continuing education activities (12 hours must be ACHE Face-to-Face Education) or retake and pass the Board of Governors Exam.
  • Complete four volunteer activities.
  • Pay the recertification fee of $200 when you submit your recertification application by the Dec. 31 deadline.

You can learn more about the recertification process by visiting ache.org/FACHE and selecting the Maintain/Recertify My FACHE button from the menu.

Additionally, if you are over the age of 60 and will retire within the next five years, you may be eligible for a one-time only five-year recertification waiver. For more information, please contact Customer Service at (312) 424-9400 or contact@ache.org.

Current Fellows who are in good standing and are retired from healthcare management may transfer to Retired Status or Life Status. Learn more about the FACHE(R) and LFACHE designations here.

Manage Ethical Organizations With New Three-Volume Book

Every day, healthcare leaders encounter numerous and complex issues, many of which have significant ethical dimensions. In a new three-volume third edition of Managing Healthcare Ethically, authors Paul B. Hofmann, DrPH, LFACHE, and William A. Nelson, PhD, HFACHE, feature columns originally written for ACHE publications that are relevant to today’s healthcare environment and challenges.

Because healthcare leaders play such a key role in leading ethical organizations, the first volume, Managing Healthcare Ethically: Volume 1—Leadership Roles and Responsibilities, focuses on this crucial topic. Managing Healthcare Ethically: Volume 2—Organizational Concerns focuses on organizational ethics management and Managing Healthcare Ethically: Volume 3—Clinical Challenges addresses ethical challenges related to clinical care. Collectively, these three volumes share lessons that help healthcare professionals ensure their organization remains ethically aligned with both professional standards and its mission and values.

If you order this book by Jan. 7, you’ll receive a 20% discount when you use the promo code HOLIDAY21 at checkout. The Healthcare Administration Press Holiday Sale discount excludes any multibook sets that are already discounted and the Board of Governors Exam flashcards.

Leading Retention From the Top

“In nearly every conversation I have with leaders, the topic of workforce is top of mind,” writes ACHE President/CEO Deborah J. Bowen, FACHE, CAE, in her latest “Perspectives” column. Although these concerns aren’t new, there is now a more prevalent sense of urgency because of the combined effect of existing shortages and pandemic stress affecting the ability of leaders to attract and retain talent.

In her column, Bowen offers some tried and true actions that are good examples of how leaders create cultures that make others want to stay, such as listening and learning to employees through multiple channels. “Perspectives” is available on HealthcareExecutive.org, where you can read the rest of the Nov/Dec issue of Healthcare Executive, access past issues, the Healthcare Executive Podcast and web-exclusive content.

Provider Relief Fund Reporting Deadline Nov. 30

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is reminding certain providers that received Provider Relief Funds to report how the funds were used by tomorrow. If providers received one or more Provider Relief Fund payments totaling more than $10,000 during the first Payment Received Period, they must report how those funds were used by Nov. 30 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time to avoid further enforcement actions like repayment or other debt collection activities. The original deadline for providers to report how the funds were used was Sept. 30, but the Department of Health and Human Services observed a 60-day grace period to help providers that didn’t meet the Reporting Period 1 deadline.

To get started, register in the PRF Reporting Portal. You can review technical assistance resources on the PRF Reporting webpage for updated FAQs and user guides, and you can receive real-time help through the Provider Support Line at (866) 569-3522; for TTY, dial 711. The Provider Support Line is open from 8 a.m. through 10 p.m. Central time, Monday through Friday.
