Alternately, attendees can take advantage of the new option to attend a one-day, six-hour seminar. Those who are interested in this option can choose from “A Field Guide for the Emerging Healthcare Leader,” available Dec. 13, and “Leading a Changing Environment: Focus on Population Health,” available Dec. 14.

Pivoting From Physical Therapy

Physical therapist-turned-healthcare executive Nichole Wilson, DPT, FACHE, believes physical therapists are exceptional problem solvers. “We are trained to thoroughly evaluate a patient’s history, signs, symptoms and results from our own tests and measures to devise a therapy diagnosis and develop creative ways to remedy a concern. As a healthcare executive and business leader, I do exactly that,” she wrote in a recent ACHE Blog post. Wilson, who most recently held the position of vice president, integrated primary care, Community Health Network, Indianapolis, sees a clear link between the problem-solving skills used in patient care and those used in making business decisions in healthcare. Although she says her transition from physical therapist to healthcare leadership was not “perfectly planned,” she is often asked what steps she took to successfully pivot from being a practicing physical therapist to a healthcare executive leading multiple business units and divisions. Read her blog post to learn more.

CMS Issues Three Final Payment Rules

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will implement various initiatives through three final rules issued last week for calendar year 2022. Issued Nov. 2, the Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule will promote greater use of telehealth and other telecommunications technologies for providing behavioral healthcare services. It also advances programs to improve the quality of care for people with Medicare by incentivizing clinicians to deliver improved outcomes. Meanwhile, CMS is taking steps to increase price transparency requirements for hospitals through the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System and Ambulatory Surgical Center Payment System Final Rule with comment period. Finally, CMS is trying to improve home health services for older adults and people with disabilities by accelerating the shift from volume-based to quality-based incentives through its release of the Home Health Prospective Payment System Final Rule.
