Program Spotlight:
Prepare for the Future of Operational Healthcare Leadership
Examine the changing role of leaders in healthcare operations while earning 12 ACHE Face-to-Face Education credits when you attend “Retooling for the Future in Healthcare Operations: The Changing Roles of Leaders.” If you are a current or aspiring COO, senior operations leader, or service-line, medical group, physician or nurse executive, you won’t want to miss this participative course in Las Vegas, Dec. 5–6.
During this two-day interactive workshop, you’ll examine the wave of change facing today’s healthcare executives and identify opportunities for new roles and the application of new skills. Expert faculty Rod Brace, PhD, and Arthur B. “David” James, MD, JD, will lead you through discussions about the personal, social and structural implications of motivation and ability in leadership. In addition, you’ll complete a self-assessment and a personal development plan. On the final day of the program, there will be an opportunity for a one-on-one debrief and coaching on your personal development plan. Review the agenda to learn more.

Everyone Benefits When You Share the Value of ACHE
When you refer colleagues to join ACHE in October, you’ll earn Leader-to-Leader Rewards. Encouraging others to become members will result in a more diverse and inclusive ACHE community. During October, new or former members can join or rejoin and receive two months of free membership.
The Leader-to-Leader Rewards Program supports your recruitment efforts by rewarding you with branded swag. Use our referral form to share details about membership or forward this email to those who you believe can benefit from all that ACHE has to offer.
To earn points, your name must be listed as the referral on a new member application or on an FACHE application. Once the membership is activated or all Fellow requirements have been met, you will receive points to redeem for rewards such as an ACHE-branded travel mug, a customizable coaster set or a computer briefcase.
Please note that Leader-to-Leader points cannot be earned by referring a member who was suspended in 2019 to rejoin. If you have any questions, please contact the Customer Service Center at (312) 424-9400 or email contact@ache.org.

Navigating Diversity on the Executive Path
As the U.S. population continues to diversify, it is evident that diverse leadership is vital to the success of healthcare organizations. And yet, racially and ethnically diverse leaders remain significantly underrepresented in today’s hospital and health system C-suites. In Diversity on the Executive Path: Wisdom and Insights for Navigating to the Highest Levels of Healthcare Leadership, author Diane L. Dixon, EdD, shares the experiences of 12 racially and ethnically diverse hospital and health system CEOs and offers their insights on what it takes to become a leader at the highest level.
Her book offers reflections on race and ethnicity in healthcare leadership, the essential role of sponsorship, strategies for maximizing career mobility, advice on how to navigate a career path during difficult periods and leadership that makes a difference.

Healthcare on Demand
Patient experiences with technology and services outside of healthcare are shaping their expectations of healthcare delivery. To meet these higher expectations, the opportunities to strengthen patient engagement, loyalty, compliance and overall satisfaction are boundless.
Saint Luke’s Cancer Institute, part of Saint Luke’s Health System, Kansas City, Mo., for example, is taking data from fitness devices, analyzing it to identify signs of early deterioration and offering intervention before a patient needs emergency care. You can read more about this in “Consumer Engagement: Beyond the App,” in the September/October issue of Healthcare Executive.
Also, don’t miss “The Rise of Virtual Medicine,” which explores what’s fueling the growth of telemedicine and how it is changing the relationships between patients and providers.
