Explore 16 Key Leadership Skills
To thrive in healthcare’s high-stakes environment, leaders need to prove their capabilities in many areas. The new release of Exceptional Leadership: 16 Critical Competencies for Healthcare Executives, Third Edition, from ACHE’s Health Administration Press, breaks down those skills needed to face healthcare’s unique leadership challenges.
This new edition of the book has been revised to reflect contemporary issues and the latest research on leadership. Individual and organizational challenges faced in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic are discussed in several chapters.
You’ll also find updated coverage and research in the following areas: energizing staff, developing vision, cultivating adaptability, building true consensus and more.
The opening case study weaves its way throughout the book and includes vignettes at the end of each chapter, along with self-reflection questions and a self-development plan. To order this book or to learn more, visit HAP's online bookstore.

Speakers Wanted for 2025 Congress
Planning is underway for the 2025 Congress on Healthcare Leadership, and ACHE has already begun requesting speaker proposals. This unique event gathers healthcare leaders to share knowledge, deliver best practices and connect as a community. Next year’s Congress, March 24–27, will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston. The deadline to submit a proposal is Monday, June 3.
Congress sessions focus on the experiences of healthcare leaders, enterprise decision-makers or those implementing new technologies or processes. Proposals generally should be consistent with that focus and relevant to current trends in healthcare. Additionally, proposals should provide tools and take-aways for participants of the session and not contain commercial content. Learn more and submit your proposal today.
If you have any questions about submitting a proposal for the 2025 Congress, please contact the ACHE Congress Team.
