Members in the News

Damond W. Boatwright, FACHE, president/CEO, Hospital Sisters Health System, Springfield, Ill., writes that “disruptors are learning painful lessons those of us in nonprofit healthcare have long known. U.S. healthcare is too expensive, both for providers and the people we serve. But it’s not because it’s run by for-profit corporations, mega systems or greedy executives who believe margin is more important than the mission. If it only were that simple.” Read Boatwright’s article in Illinois Business Journal, and read more about your peers making headlines in ACHE’s Members in the News.

Strategic Partnership Lab Management Strategy

According to research conducted by Quest Diagnostics, 58% of C-suite–level healthcare executives face staffing issues, 56% have concerns about supply-chain logistics and 33% are managing technology challenges.

Developing a forward-thinking lab management strategy, such as a lab partnership, can enable your organization to address all three challenges. Lab partnerships take advantage of an external lab’s size and expertise to offer benefits health systems could not always achieve alone.

With an aging workforce retiring and the increased demand for lab services, technological advances play a role in ensuring an adequate number of staff are available and appropriately trained. Working with a strategic lab partner can help fill in gaps when and where needed and can help your lab advance its diagnostic capabilities.

A reliable healthcare supply chain is one of the most important factors in ensuring that both providers and patients have regular access to lab services. A lab management partnership allows an organization to purchase lab supplies and equipment at a more favorable price, so it can allocate savings to other areas.

Other options when working with an external lab partner include increasing automation, developing outreach and improving logistics, all of which can increase the efficiency and bottom line of your organization’s lab system.

Help Us Invest in Our Field’s Future

Cultivating leaders who care about equity is at the heart of ACHE’s mission to advance healthcare leadership excellence. To meet the increasingly diverse needs of patients and communities and improve health outcomes, it is critical to help build an inclusive pipeline of talented future healthcare leaders.

ACHE is on a mission to raise $1 million by March 2025 as part of its $1 Million Campaign for Healthcare Leaders of Tomorrow. Scholarships from the Fund help diverse, talented individuals acquire the skills and training they need to forge a career path in healthcare leadership. The Fund supports participation in ACHE’s Career Accelerator Program, the Executive Program and the Thomas C. Dolan Executive Diversity Program, as well as additional educational opportunities presented during the year.

Without donor funding, these programs cannot exist, and the need is greater than ever. Talk to your organization about a major gift or consider a personal gift to help us achieve our goal of raising $1 million. With your help, we can create a bolder and brighter future in healthcare. Visit The Fund for Healthcare Leadership to learn more, and make a donation today.

For more information or to discuss gift and pledge options, contact Timothy R. Tlusty, vice president, Development, at ttlusty@ache.org.
