2024 Congress: Forward-Thinking Leaders With BIG IDEAS!

Make no small plans. Registration is open for the 2024 Congress on Healthcare Leadership, so take a moment to explore the agenda and speakers. This year’s Congress will feature more than 150 education and networking sessions put together by healthcare leaders and successful innovators, including the following speakers:

  • New York Times Bestselling Author Daniel H. Pink will welcome attendees to Congress at the Parker B. Francis Distinguished Lecture “Leadership, Culture and the New Principles of Influence.” He will show the power of underused techniques, such as perspective-taking, problem-finding and using purpose as a motivator, and offer concrete steps to put these ideas into action.
  • What does it take to be an outstanding leader in today’s environment? Find out with Carla Harris, senior client advisor, Morgan Stanley, at the Arthur C. Bachmeyer Memorial Address and Luncheon on Monday, March 25, “Intentional Leadership: Tools for Maximizing Your Success.” Attendees will walk away with guidance on the essential components of being a powerful and intentional leader and the skills they must cultivate to do so in today’s day and age.
  • Mick Ebeling, founder and CEO, Not Impossible Labs, will serve up “Creativity for Breakfast—Innovation in a Tumultuous World” during the Malcolm T. MacEachern Memorial Address and Luncheon on Tuesday, March 26. He’ll share insights into the way of the “hacker-maker” and the gift of positive failure, reminding leaders that the healthcare landscape has never been more primed for breakthrough innovation.
  • Abraham Verghese, MD, MACP, Stanford professor and bestselling author, will present “The Caring in Healthcare: Challenges and Opportunities in a Technological Era” during the Leon I. Gintzig Commemorative Address and Luncheon, discussing the future of artificial intelligence in healthcare and its potential to ease burnout and make space for more meaningful patient interactions.

These speakers and sessions are just a taste of what you can expect at the 2024 Congress, where you can also earn up to 18 ACHE In-Person Education credits toward earning or maintaining your FACHE® credential. If you haven’t already reserved your spot with one of our registration options don’t delay! Education sessions fill up quickly, and early bird discounts end Thursday, Feb. 29.

We hope you’ll join us Monday, March 25, to Thursday, March 28. Visit ache.org/Congress to register and to learn more.

Ready to Join the Giving Movement?

Tomorrow is #GivingTuesday, which represents a global generosity movement fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. On this special day, consider donating to the Foundation of ACHE's Fund for Healthcare Leadership by visiting ache.org/GivingTuesday. Your contribution, no matter the size, supports our mission to develop the next generation of executives and leaders through scholarships and other vital resources, including the Thomas C. Dolan Executive Diversity Program and the Career Accelerator Program, the Executive Program, and the $1 Million Campaign for Healthcare Leaders of Tomorrow.

Donations to the Fund give Dolan scholars, like Girish G. Kaimal, PharmD, FACHE, the opportunity to develop advanced leadership skills that will help them cultivate responsive healthcare organizations in the diverse communities they serve.

New JHM and Healthcare Management Forum Focus on Behavioral Health

Both the Journal of Healthcare Management and the Healthcare Management Forum have dedicated their last issues of 2023 to behavioral health, including new original research that looks at the behavioral health of caregivers as well as patients and their communities.

JHM’s research articles, regular healthcare leader interview and feature column present diverse perspectives on behavioral health. Jeffrey Glenn at Brigham Young University and colleagues asked physicians if the electronic health record helps avoid opioid misuse through advanced decision support.

Gregory P. Couser and colleagues share Mayo Clinic’s experience with employee assistance programs, Jennifer M. Katzenstein and her team of researchers at Johns Hopkins describe the implementation of a behavior intervention response team to reduce harmful behaviors, and Laurence M. Boitet and fellow researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham show how the lingering impact of COVID-19 on healthcare workers supports the development of trauma-informed leadership strategies.

The November issue of the Healthcare Management Forum covers a wide range of topics from leadership training to HPV screening and surgical referrals—all of which are united by the requirement to lean into the complexity of the healthcare challenges ahead. Vania Sakelaris and co-authors describe the positive impact of physician leadership education on the British Columbia healthcare system; Andrew Bond, MD, discusses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic as a “big event disruption” on modern healthcare, which could enable the adoption of new approaches and technologies; and Julia Hemphill and co-authors describe a quality improvement initiative in long-term care.
