Advance Your Leadership Skills Virtually
During these past two years, executives have had to be ever-vigilant of and responsive to changes not only from the pandemic, but also ongoing operational shifts. The new Virtual Leadership Symposium, April 11–12, offers leaders the education and resources they need to lead their organizations, all from the convenience of their home or office.
During this premier virtual event, executives have a variety of education sessions to choose from while earning up to 6 ACHE Face-to-Face Education credits, as well as continuing clinical education credits for physicians, nurses, physician assistants and pharmacists. Following is a preview of some of the leadership-focused sessions available.
- Jen Ashton, MD, chief health and medical correspondent, ABC News, and Leana Wen, MD, emergency physician and public health professor, George Washington University, will provide thought-provoking insights at the opening session about fostering resilience and teamwork during times of crisis.
- Join Wright L. Lassiter III, president/CEO, Henry Ford Health System; Michael Dowling, president/CEO, Northwell Health; Johnese Spisso, CEO, UCLA Hospital System/president, UCLA Health/associate vice chancellor, UCLA Health Sciences; and Kadesha Thomas Smith, CEO, CareContent Inc., as they discuss their efforts to increase access to care, reduce their carbon footprints and create equitable systems during Hot Topic: Making Your Mark—Environmental, Social and Governance Impact for Healthcare Leaders.
- Discover three strategies that engage physicians in person-centered care initiatives during Someday It Will Be Me: Engaging Physicians in Person-Centered Care, led by Dael Waxman, MD, physician coach, Language of Caring, a branch of Planetree International, and Frederick A. Browne, MD, FACP, vice president, Medical Affairs/CMO, Griffin Hospital.

Thank You for Supporting Future Leaders on ACHE’s Day of Giving
Today, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the 64 donations we received on ACHE’s annual Day of Giving. Because of your generosity, we raised nearly $10,000 for the Fund for Healthcare Leadership. The Fund provides scholarships for our Executive Program—which offers extensive and immersive experiences for aspiring leaders—and wholly supports the Thomas C. Dolan Executive Diversity Program and the Thomas C. Dolan Career Accelerator Program, which help to promote and prepare diverse and highly qualified healthcare leaders for the future.
“I was so honored to be selected and I appreciated so much the ability to grow within a cohort of peers with whom I still stay in contact,” says past Dolan Executive Diversity Program scholar Lily J. Henson, MD, FACHE, in an ACHE Blog post about her experience with the program.
When you donate to the Fund, you help provide resources for the future leaders of our field. Although the Day of Giving is over, the need to assist aspiring leaders continues. We hope you will join us in making a difference for talented individuals like Henson by visiting ache.org/Fund to learn about giving options, including shopping through the AmazonSmile program.
Discover the Unexpected Traits of High-Performing Leaders
Is humility viewed as a weakness? Can leaders balance kindness with a strong personality? These are just some of the questions raised in Intangibles: The Unexpected Traits of High-Performing Healthcare Leaders by Amer Kaissi, PhD, professor, Healthcare Administration, Trinity University, and winner of the 2019 James A. Hamilton Book of the Year Award. Armed with evidence and insights from researchers, executives, philosophers and thought leaders, Kaissi introduces readers to four intangible leadership traits—humility, compassion, kindness and generosity—and then explores each trait through the lenses of gender, age and self-improvement. Browse the book’s table of contents and excerpt to learn more, and order your copy of Intangibles—also available as an audio book—today.
Kaissi will be speaking at the 2022 Congress on Healthcare Leadership during “Inspiring and Leading Change in Turbulent Times: Agility and Resilience in Healthcare Leadership.” During this session, he will help attendees gain a deep understanding of the principles of agile leadership, including resilience, flexibility and speed, and develop agile leadership skills and behaviors that inspire change and drive high performance.
