Meet the ACHE Faculty

<div id="pastingspan1"></div><div id="pastingspan1">Thomas A. Atchison, EdD, is president and founder of Atchison Consulting LLC. Since 1984, Dr. Atchison has consulted with healthcare organizations on managed change programs, team building and leadership development. His clients include senior executives, managers, trustees and physician leaders. He has also consulted the military, healthcare vendors and government agencies on the intangible aspects of healthcare.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div id="pastingspan1">Dr. Atchison has taught several courses on leadership and change management for ACHE. He has also written numerous articles about motivation, managed change, teambuilding and leadership. His book, <em>Turning Healthcare Leadership Around</em>, was published in October 1990. <div>Jim Austin<strong>&nbsp;</strong>heads JH Austin Associates Inc., Chicago, where he combines business strategy and organizational development theory with extensive industry experience to guide organizations. He is also an adjunct senior lecturer at Brown University, Providence, R.H., in the Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership program, and a faculty member at Duke Corporate Education, headquartered in Durham, N.C. Mr. Austin is a lecturer/consultant at the Aresty Institute of Executive Education in the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, where he tailors and delivers senior-level seminars on strategy, strategic execution, scenario planning and critical thinking at a number of leading companies. <p>Laurie Baedke is a faculty member and director of healthcare leadership programs at Creighton University. A well-regarded speaker and author with broad experience building companies and leading organizational change, Ms. Baedke has specific expertise in healthcare management, emotional intelligence and strengths-based leadership. She is an active mentor and adviser to senior executives, physician leaders, early careerists and entrepreneurs. She also hosts the weekly podcast &#8220;The Growth Edge Leadership Podcast.&#8221; Ms. Baedke holds a bachelor&#8217;s degree in human services and business administration and a master&#8217;s degree in healthcare administration. She is a board-certified Fellow of the American College of Medical Practice Executives. She has been a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach since 2006. Ms. Baedke has received numerous awards. She has served on four national committees for ACHE and is a current member of the ACHE of Nebraska and Western Iowa Chapter board of directors. She also serves on various civic and community organizations&#8217; boards and committees. Ms. Baedke holds dual faculty appointments at Creighton University&#8217;s Heider College of Business and School of Medicine, where she serves as director of the Executive Healthcare MBA program. Her first book, <em>The Emerging Healthcare Leader: A Field Guide</em>, was published by ACHE&#8217;s Health Administration Press in 2015, and a second edition was published in 2018. <p>Danielle Bangs is a director at Veralon. She advises healthcare organizations on merger and affiliation efforts, joint ventures, and other partnerships and transactions, including partner selection, partnership development and deal structuring, negotiation and process facilitation. She also provides advice on a range of financial and business planning initiatives.She has worked with health systems, community hospitals, academic medical centers, behavioral health providers, health plans and clinically integrated networks/accountable care organizations.</p> <p>Bangs has experience in transaction advisory and support including due diligence, negotiation, partner selection and deal structuring; strategic, business and financial planning for hospitals and health systems; physician alignment efforts, including primary care network development, selection of alignment models and evaluating physician practices; and compensation design and fair market value analyses.</p> <p>Bangs was most recently director of corporate development for Universal Health Services. In this capacity she was responsible for a wide range of transactions across the company&#8217;s markets, including joint ventures, acquisitions, partnerships and strategic investments. These transactions spanned ambulatory surgery centers, home health, hospitals, behavioral health, physician groups, Medicare Advantage plans and ACOs.</p> <p>Bangs received designation as a certified valuation analyst from National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts. She holds a Bachelor of Science in policy analysis and management and a Master of Health Administration from Cornell University.</p>

<p>For more than 20 years, Karma Bass has been a sought-after speaker, facilitator and consultant with deep knowledge and experience in governance, strategic planning, philanthropy, healthcare policy and board effectiveness. Her experience gives her a unique and valuable perspective as a consultant to hospital and health systems boards.</p> <p>Before co-founding Via Healthcare Consulting, Karma worked as vice president for Accord Limited, a Chicago-based consulting firm. She served two years as president/CEO of Alliance Healthcare Foundation in San Diego, where she reported to an independent, 11-person not-for-profit board. Notably, Karma spent 10 years at The Governance Institute, holding various positions including vice president of membership services and director of research and publications. She also oversaw the prestigious biennial hospital governance practices survey tracking trends in nearly 5,000 U.S. hospitals and health systems. During three years at the Hospital Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties, Karma facilitated the first-ever collaborative community health needs assessment for San Diego&#8217;s 32 hospitals. </p> <p>Karma has a master&#8217;s degree in public health with a focus in health services administration from San Diego State University. She received her bachelor&#8217;s degree from the University of California, San Diego.</p>

Karyn Baum is professor of medicine, School of Medicine, and adjunct&nbsp;professor, School of Public Health, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.&nbsp;She is also vice president, System Clinical Operations, M Health-Fairview, Minneapolis,&nbsp;co-leading the Health Transformation Center. Dr. Baum has a history of leading&nbsp;hospital operations at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis,&nbsp;where she is currently interim vice president, Medical Affairs, overseeing&nbsp;operations, finances and medical leadership. Dr. Baum previously served as the&nbsp;center's executive medical director for Care Transitions and Patient Flow, and associate&nbsp;CMO. A practicing hospitalist, she was the senior consultant, Association of&nbsp;American Medical Colleges, Washington, D.C., directing their Educating for&nbsp;Quality initiatives from 2015-2017.

<p>Florence L. Di Benedetto is senior vice president/general counsel, Sutter Health, Sacramento, Calif. She joined Sutter Health in October 2008. She has accountability for the Office of the General Counsel, which includes legal services, risk services, Sutter Health Emergency Management System (a centralized incident command operation that provides an organized structure to assist affiliates in maintaining optimal patient care in the event of a catastrophe), and privacy and information security, including cyber security. She serves as a strategic business adviser to the president/CEO and other members of senior leadership. Di Benedetto provides primary advice and counsel to the Sutter Health board and board committees, including finance, audit and compliance, governance, and compensation. </p> <p>Additionally, Di Benedetto is the executive sponsor of the Leadership Academy, a 10-month intensive leadership development program for an elite group of rising leaders selected by the executive leadership team. She also serves as the executive sponsor of the Military and Veterans Inclusion Resource Group.</p> <p>Benedetto earned her bachelor’s degree in international relations from Georgetown University and studied economics and economic planning at London University and the Central School of Planning and Statistics in Warsaw, Poland. She earned her law degree from the University of San Francisco and her MBA in health services management from Golden Gate University.</p>

<p>Britt Berrett, PhD, LFACHE, is managing director and teaching professor, Healthcare Industry Collaborative, Brigham Young University. His recent book, <em>Patients Come Second&#8212;Leading Change by Changing How You Lead, is a New York Times</em> and <em>Wall Street Journal</em> bestseller. He focuses on the importance of creating a vibrant and engaged leadership team that can orchestrate cultural change.</p> <p>Prior to academia, he served as the president of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, a 900-bed tertiary referral center, and executive vice president of Texas Health Resources, a network of 24 facilities and more than 250 ambulatory centers located throughout North Texas. He previously served as the president/CEO of Medical City and Medical City Children&#8217;s Hospital, the flagship medical center for the North Texas Division of HCA. He also served as a CEO within the SHARP HealthCare system in San Diego.</p> <p>His portfolio includes keynote speeches, leadership workshops, board retreats, executive coaching, strategic planning, organizational assessments, leadership development and organizational culture advancements. His clients include numerous healthcare organizations and professional associations.</p>

<p>Jennifer Bickel, MD, serves as the chief wellness officer at Moffit Cancer Center, Tampa, Fla. She works with senior leaders across the organization to ensure staff well-being is incorporated into all decisions. Dr. Bickel has real-world experience in assessing burnout across healthcare organizations and in developing effective, evidence-based strategies to reduce clinician burnout. Her innovative strategies to improve physician and healthcare worker well-being have been nationally recognized in publications and presentations. </p> <p>As an academic professor and a neurologist, she has won awards in mentorship, leadership and clinical program development. She currently serves as a member of the National Academy of Medicine&#8217;s Action Collaborative for Clinician Well-Being and as the chair for the American Academy of Neurology&#8217;s Wellness Subcommittee. She is also a Berkeley-certified executive coach. Dr. Bickel received her medical degree at the University of Missouri&#173;&#173;&#8211;Kansas City and completed her neurology residency at the University of Kansas. </p> &#173;

<div>Mark Bittle is director of the master of health administration program and responsible for the leadership and management curricula for the MHA, MPH and DrPH degree programs at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. He teaches graduate courses in healthcare financing, leadership and management and operations and strategy. <div>Rod Brace, PhD, is a&nbsp;founding partner, Relia Advisors LLC, Houston, which provides expertise in high reliability organizational models, organizational model/culture assessment and design, leadership development and governance board assessments and strategies, including governance/management interventions.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Dr. Brace most recently&nbsp;retired as regional president/chief learning officer for the Memorial Hermann Health System, Houston. He served 30 years in operational positions, including chief&nbsp;regional operations officer and hospital CEO/COO in nonprofit and&nbsp;investor-owned health systems.</div><div>&nbsp;</div>Rod is an executive&nbsp;coach, national speaker, author and faculty member at both The University of&nbsp;Alabama at Birmingham and ACHE. He also holds an MBA and PhD in management, with&nbsp;a research emphasis in employee engagement, organizational cultures and&nbsp;leadership.

<p>Michael Broscio is Managing Principal of MAB Career Management, LLC. He recently completed more than ten years as the Director of ACHE's Career Resource Center. He is certified as a Career Management Fellow by the Institute of Career Certification International and brings more than 25 years of career development and human resources experience in healthcare, financial services and academic settings.</p> <p>Mr. Broscio received a Master's Degree in Education and a B.A. in Psychology from DePaul University. He has written numerous magazine articles on career issues and has presented at national conferences.</p>

<div>Jon Burroughs,&nbsp;MD, FACHE, FAAPL, is&nbsp;president/CEO of The Burroughs Healthcare Consulting Network Inc., Glen, N.H.,&nbsp;which provides best-practice training and solutions to healthcare systems&nbsp;throughout the U.S. His work focuses on the areas of governance, performance&nbsp;improvement and patient safety, strategic planning models of integration and&nbsp;alignment, population health and the monetization of quality, among others. <p>Gregory S. Butler is president of Caldwell Butler &amp; Associates, McKinney, Texas, a firm dedicated to improving hospital performance through the implementation of advanced quality methods. With more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare field and a certified Green Belt in Lean-Six Sigma, he is an expert in leading transformational efforts, having worked with hundreds of healthcare organizations to create a culture of action and innovation. <p>Chip Caldwell, LFACHE, is chairman of Caldwell Butler &amp; Associates LLC, St. Augustine, Fla. He has served as an executive&nbsp;team performance coach for 20 years and is considered a thought leader in&nbsp;healthcare quality and performance improvement methodology.&nbsp;Mr. Caldwell was&nbsp;the healthcare representative on the U.S. Quality Council, and continues to&nbsp;serve as a member of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Board Support&nbsp;Team. He has also authored or co-authored six healthcare management books on&nbsp;cost reduction, accountable change models and the executive role in Lean Six&nbsp;Sigma. Catherine Carow is president of Carow Consulting. She has over 20 years of experience in strategic and physician resource planning, mergers and acquisitions, business development, marketing and operations. She specializes in developing business strategies based on data-driven evidence. She initiated and led clinical and senior leadership teams to identify growth opportunities based on financial performance and market advantages. Ms. Carow has managed three to five-year planning processes, as well as annual tactical plans, and developed aligned physician growth strategies. She identified physician specialty and group targets for recruitment, succession planning and retention. <br /><br />Ms. Carow has provided planning, analytical and marketing direction for academic, community, and pediatric hospitals and systems, and nonprofit and government organizations. She developed business plans, analyzed major markets, facilitated retreats, and outlined and evaluated potential partners along the care continuum. In prior positions, Ms. Carow oversaw the planning department, PHO marketing, physician referral call functions and integrated operations of a $20M PHO with a 500-member multispecialty group. She is also experienced with CON regulations and the filing process, having worked with a team to obtain approval for a $280 million inpatient tower. <p>Ms. Carow is an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois in the master of health administration program. She earned her master&#8217;s degree in business administration with a concentration in international business from Clemson University and studied in Italy. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the Society for Health Care Strategy &amp; Market Development. <p>Kevin Cook has more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience. He recently joined Sutter Health after working as a managing principal for Caldwell Butler, a healthcare consulting firm that uses evidence-based methods to improve margin, quality and patient experience. Cook has also served as the COO of Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, a five-region, 10-hospital system based in Louisiana and Mississippi. He created the operational infrastructure to move the system from a holding company to an operating company.</p> <p>Cook also led the University of Mississippi Medical Center&#8217;s health system for seven years. Before joining UMMC, Cook spent eight years with Mercy Health in Cincinnati. While at Mercy, he was a regional CEO, market CEO and hospital COO serving in both Ohio and Pennsylvania. He also worked for Triad Hospitals in Mississippi. Before his career in hospital operations, Cook worked with Caldwell Butler as a Six Sigma engineer and as director of operations at the Premier Innovation Institute.</p> <p>Cook earned his undergraduate degree from Hobart and William Smith College and holds a master&#8217;s degree in business administration from Boston University. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1991 to 1999, rising to the rank of major. Cook is a two-term Council of Teaching Hospitals board member at the Association of American Medical Colleges and serves as ACHE faculty. </p>

<p>Lynne S. Cunningham has more than 40 years of healthcare experience, including 30 years as a strategic planning and marketing consultant and international speaker on topics focused on strategic communications. She has worked with hospitals, health systems, medical groups, organ procurement organizations and federally qualified healthcare centers in the U.S. and Canada to define, measure and evaluate the perception of quality among patients, employees, physicians and the community. Ms. Cunningham is the author of several books and many journal articles on topics including the impact of patient satisfaction on malpractice exposure, physician involvement in marketing, and marketing best practices in a variety of service lines. Her newest book is <em>Taking Conversations From Difficult to Doable: 3 Models to Master Tough Conversations</em>. She recently retired from Studer Group, where she had been a coach and speaker for 20 years. Prior to that, she held staff administrative positions with Sutter Health and Kaiser Permanente. <div>John H. Daniels, FACHE, is CEO of BICSI in Tampa, a global not-for-profit professional association supporting the advancement of the information and communications technology profession, including healthcare. Mr. Daniels has more than 30 years&#8217; experience in incorporating IT best practices into healthcare organizations and advising health system executives around the world in the effective use of healthcare information technology.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Mr. Daniels serves as faculty for the following ACHE seminar:</div><div><ul><li>Healthcare Technology and Information Management, Board of Governors Exam Review Course&nbsp;</li></ul></div>

<div id="pastingspan1">Stephan Davis, DNP, FACHE, is the inaugural executive director of inclusive leadership education for the Department of Health Administration at Virginia Commonwealth University. He also serves as assistant dean of diversity, equity and inclusion for VCU&#8217;s College of Health Professions, which houses programs across nine disciplines. These include top-ranked programs in U.S. News and World Report, such as nurse anesthesia (No. 1 in the nation), healthcare management and rehabilitation counseling (ranked in the top 5), and physical therapy and occupational therapy (ranked in the top 20).</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div id="pastingspan1">Davis is a faculty member for the American College of Healthcare Executives and an ACHE Fellow. He recently served ACHE as chair of the LGBTQ Healthcare Leaders Community and as a Regent-at-Large, a role created to foster diversity in the governance of ACHE. In addition, he serves as chair of the Quality and Safety Faculty Forum for the Association of University Programs in Health Administration. For his leadership in the interprofessional context, he has been elected as a distinguished scholar and fellow of the National Academies of Practice 2022 class of inductees. Davis holds numerous board certifications, including credentials in healthcare quality, finance, strengths-based coaching, nursing leadership and academic nursing education.</div><div></div>

Craig Deao has been a member of the senior executive team for Studer Group since 2006. Mr. Deao is a national speaker on topics related to leadership, accountability, patient experience, quality and safety. He co-led Studer Group&#8217;s Baldrige journey and now spends most weeks working inside healthcare organizations to help leaders design their own journeys to excellence. Mr. Deao serves on the quality committee of his local health system and is passionate about making healthcare better.

<p id="pastingspan1">Janet Pinkerton Dombrowski spent nearly 20 years as a senior strategy leader in various consulting organizations and large health systems, after an early career in healthcare delivery and operations. She built her personal credibility as a trusted advisor to many executives with intuition, integrative thinking and a direct approach. Over time, she chose to build on her skills at creating synergy and ensuring alignment in projects and processes.</p> <p>She founded JCD Advisors in 2008 with a vision to help clients harness the power of change and direct it toward learning, innovation and growth. For nearly 15 years, Ms. Dombrowski and her team of senior coaches have focused exclusively on the healthcare industry, supporting C-suite executives, senior executives and physician leaders in becoming more intentional about their leadership presence, the creation of highly functioning teams and the importance of alignment in strategy, structure and culture for optimal organization effectiveness. They have broad experience working across a variety of healthcare settings including academic medical centers, national faith-based health systems, regional integrated delivery systems, community hospitals and health centers. They also have experience in higher education and nonprofit social service organizations.</p> <p>Ms. Dombrowski received her Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan, where she is an emeritus member of the Alumni Board and an adjunct faculty member. She also received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan. </p>

<p>With a background combining her executive experiences in the health industry, two decades of coaching and consulting, and innovative research on executive and physician leadership effectiveness, Tracy L. Duberman founded The Leadership Development Group Inc. and serves as its CEO. <p>Fayola Edwards-Ojeba, MD is the founder and CEO of RechargedMD. <p>Sarah Freymann Fontenot, JD, served as the adjunct professor for health law in the Department of Health Care Administration at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas for 26 years and retired in 2023. A former nurse and practicing attorney, she is also a professional speaker who specializes in explaining how healthcare is evolving and what those changes mean for providers. <p>Michael Gitman, MD, FACP, is medical director, North Shore University Hospital. He is the chief physician executive responsible for medical affairs and clinical operations of the 800-bed quaternary care hospital. His responsibilities include day-to-day executive management, medical affairs, quality management and patient safety efforts.</p> <p> Previously, Dr. Gitman served as the vice chairman for academic affairs and quality, Department of Medicine, of the former North Shore&#8211;Long Island Jewish Medical Center. <p>Kevin J. Joseph, MD, FACHE, serves as chief clinical officer, Ascension Healthcare. <div><strong></strong><div id="pastingspan1">Adviser to hospitals, health systems and health-related companies, Scott A. Mason, DPA, FACHE, is an independent consultant, board member and serial entrepreneur. His career has spanned diverse strategy assignments with more than 400 organizations in 40 states. In addition to joining the consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton and founding his own firm early in his career, Mason has held senior executive positions with numerous private and public companies. Mason has also served in a variety of interim management positions, including as a hospital executive and president of a regional health system. The focus of Mason&#8217;s strategy engagements has evolved over the years from aggregating regional hospital systems (more than $20 billion in hospital mergers and almost 40 regional health systems formed) to conducting post-merger integration following these initial mergers. <p>Michael A. Mayo, DHA, FACHE, is president and CEO of Baptist Health. <p>Ranna Parekh, MD, joined MD Anderson as the chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer in May 2022. Dr. Parekh is a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist. Rochester, DHA, FACHE, CPA, joined the Cleveland Clinic in May 2022as the CFO for the Florida Region, bringing 30 years of fiscal experience, including more than 17 years in healthcare financial leadership. </p> <p>In 2017, Dr. Rochester joined the executive team of the Penn Medicine: University of Pennsylvania Health System as CFO for Chester County Hospital and Health System, providing insightful business acumen, serving as a key partner in strategic plan development and overseeing budgeting, forecasting and operational efficiency for the health system. <p>Robert Sachs works with organizations to enhance and integrate critical leadership talent strategies and systems, and to assist them in developing their learning strategies and governance. He also coaches executives. Dr. Sachs currently serves as advisory board chair for The Leadership Development Group. He also chairs the board of We Care Services for Children, which provides mental health and developmental services to children in the San Francisco Bay Area. He serves on the advisory board of Pandexio, which creates technology that supports the development and sharing of critical thinking across organizations. Dr. Sachs spent 19 years at Kaiser Permanente, most recently as vice president of national learning and development. His responsibilities at KP included succession management and leadership development. <p>David L. Schreiner, PhD, FACHE, is president/CEO, Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital, Dixon, Ill. He is a passionate advocate for rural hospitals, having spent most of his life in small towns and working in small communities.</p> <p>Schreiner considers himself a values-driven leader who lives in the moment, has an unquenchable thirst for continual learning, challenges existing practices, produces positive results, innovates to improve the lives of others and loves unconditionally. He aims to be a missionary for excellent health and vibrant communities and spread love through generosity and healing. His research focuses on improving the health of others, with a particular emphasis on rural communities.</p> <p>From 2016 to 2019, Schreiner served on ACHE&#8217;s Board of Governors. He is also the past chairman of the American Hospital Association Rural Health Task Force. He was the 2007 Dixon, Illinois Citizen of the Year and received the 2022 Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of St. Francis College of Business.</p> <p>His first book, <em>Be the Best Part of Their Day: Supercharging Communication with Values-Driven Leadership</em>, will be available January 2024.</p>

<p>Roberta L. Schwartz is the executive vice president and chief innovation officer of Houston Methodist Hospital, one of the Texas Medical Center&#8217;s founding institutions. She is responsible for overseeing all operations at the 952-bed hospital, which has been named by U.S. News &amp; World Report as the No. 1 hospital in Texas for 10 straight years and has also been named to the publication&#8217;s prestigious Honor Roll of America&#8217;s best 20 hospitals four times. In her role as chief innovation officer, Dr. Schwartz is responsible for advancing and expanding Houston Methodist&#8217;s digital innovation platforms, including telemedicine, artificial intelligence and big data. </p> <p>Prior to joining Houston Methodist, Dr. Schwartz worked as director of business development for Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, as a consultant and project manager to several academic medical centers for APM/Computer Sciences Corporation, and for CMS.</p> <p>Dr. Schwartz earned a master&#8217;s in health science from Johns Hopkins University and an honors undergraduate degree from Barnard College at Columbia University. She has a PhD from the University of Texas School of Public Health. Roberta has been recognized nationally for her professional and nonprofit work. She was most recently recognized by Modern Healthcare&#8217;s Top 25 Women Leaders as one of its 10 Women to Watch. She is also involved in many nonprofit organizations such as Lifegift OPO, Robert M Beren Academy and the UOS Synagogue, Young Survival Coalition and many breast cancer organizations. </p>

<p>Jonathan A. Sendach, FACHE, is the executive director at North Shore University Hospital where he oversees the overall executive management for the 800-bed quaternary care hospital. His responsibilities include strategy, financial stewardship and leadership of a facility that serves as one of the cornerstones of Northwell Health, as well as an academic campus for the Zucker Hofstra/Northwell School of Medicine. Prior to being named executive director, he served as deputy executive director and associate executive director for hospital operations. </p> <p>Previously, Sendach was the associate executive director for finance at Glen Cove Hospital, a 265-bed acute care community hospital. There, he managed financial operations, patient financial services and health information management, as well as directed the annual budget process. In addition to business plan development and financial planning, he was also responsible for the oversight of the hospital&#8217;s faculty practice, comprised of 40 physicians and allied health professionals covering a range of specialties. He began his career in healthcare at Northwell as a staff emergency medical technician, working in both the 911 and critical care interfacility transport divisions. </p> <p>Prior to joining Northwell Health, Sendach worked as a senior account executive in the New York health and medical practice at Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, an international public relations firm serving a range of clients. He worked on publicity campaigns for products from Pfizer Inc., Merck &amp; Co. and AstraZeneca. Sendach began his career in public relations at the New York City offices of The Rowland Company, where he worked with the healthcare team and served as a co-director of the summer intern training program. </p> <p>Board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow, Sendach holds a bachelor&#8217;s degree from Colgate University and a Master of Public Administration from the Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University, where he holds an appointment as adjunct associate professor of health policy and management. <p>Harjot Singh, MD, is an advisor who creates programs that help leaders make their leadership work. He is a practicing physician, chief of telepsychiatry service at Kingsview Behavioral Health and faculty at American College of Healthcare Executives. <p>Cecilia Sorensen, MD, is the director of the Global Consortium on Climate and Health Education at Columbia University. She also serves as associate professor, Emergency Medicine, Columbia Irving Medical Center, and associate professor, Environmental Health Sciences, Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University. Her work focuses on the intersection of climate change and health and how policy solutions, clinical action and education can build resilience in vulnerable communities. Dr. Sorensen currently serves on the working group for the National Academy of Medicine&#8217;s Climate and Human Health Initiative. She was an author for the <em>Fourth National Climate Assessment</em>. She is the co-editor of the textbook <em>Climate Change and Human Health: From Science to Practice</em>. </p>

<p>Brian Spisak, PhD is an independent consultant focusing on digital transformation and workforce management in healthcare, a research associate at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Harvard University for the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative and a faculty member at the American College of Healthcare Executives. Dr. Spisak introduced the discipline of computational leadership science and is the author of the book, Computational Leadership: Connecting Behavioral Science and Technology to Optimize Decision-Making and Increase Profits (Wiley, 2023). His passion lies at the crossroads of people &amp; culture, leadership development, process improvement and the mature use of AI to scale solutions. These areas align with his goals of enhancing employee outcomes, reducing burnout and turnover as well as improving patient outcomes, increasing patient satisfaction and value. </p>

<p style="6.0pt">Burl Stamp, president/founder of Stamp &amp; Chase, has broad-based experience working alongside healthcare professionals from the boardroom to the bedside. He has helped major health systems, academic medical centers and community hospitals improve bottom line, patient experience, staff engagement and operating results. His firm partners with healthcare organizations across the globe to improve performance by developing enhanced communication competencies and practices at all levels of the enterprise.</p> <p style="6.0pt">Prior to launching Stamp &amp; Chase more than 16 years ago, Burl served several leading healthcare organizations in executive roles. As president/CEO of Phoenix Children&#8217;s Hospital, he spearheaded development and construction of the first comprehensive, freestanding healthcare campus in Arizona dedicated to pediatrics. He developed the first strategic planning and marketing department at St. Louis Children&#8217;s Hospital, where he started the highly successful Answer Line to provide reliable, accessible health advice to families&#8212;a solid population health strategy that was roughly 20 years ahead of its time. <p>Charles D. &#8220;Chuck&#8221; Stokes, FACHE, is executive in residence at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, former president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston, and a Past Chairman of the American College of Healthcare Executives.</p> <p>Board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow, Mr. Stokes has served as an ACHE faculty member at Congress and for other ACHE educational programs for 10 years. Mr. Stokes has been in his current position since July 2017. Prior to that, he served as executive vice president and COO from 2008 to 2017. Previously, he served as president of North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo, from 2005 to 2008. From 1999 to 2005 he served as system executive vice president, COO and chief nurse executive of Huntsville (Ala.) Hospital System, and from 1996 to 1999 he served as executive vice president and system operations officer of St. Vincent Health System in Little Rock, Ark. Prior to that, Mr. Stokes served in several positions at Schumpert Health System in Shreveport, La., including system senior vice president and COO from 1994 to 1996; interim CEO of Schumpert Medical Center from 1993 to 1994; and COO of Schumpert Medical Center from 1989 to 1993.</p> <p>From 1986 to 1989 he served as vice president of medical and professional services at St. Luke's Episcopal/Texas Heart Institute/Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. He served in various executive roles at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson from 1984 to 1986, including acting associate hospital director from 1985 to 1986; assistant hospital director in 1985; and diagnosis related group coordinator from 1984 to 1985. Mr. Stokes also served as assistant director of nursing, critical care, from 1978 to 1981. He also served as hospital administrator for emergency medical services at Charity Hospital in New Orleans from 1982 to 1984.</p> <p>In addition to his service to ACHE, Mr. Stokes serves on the Houston Holocaust Museum board and on the board of the Children's Defense Fund. Under Stokes' leadership, North Mississippi Medical Center and Memorial Hermann's Sugar Land Hospital became Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recipients in 2006 and 2016 respectively. <p>Quint Studer has spent decades in healthcare. He worked for multiple healthcare systems, including serving as president of Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. In 2000, he founded Studer Group, a healthcare and education coaching company, which was sold in 2015. Studer left the organization in 2016 and founded the Studer Community Institute, a not-for-profit whose mission is to improve the quality of life for people. He is the author of many books, with several on bestseller lists. He serves on numerous healthcare boards and is a frequent speaker, workshop facilitator, and mentor to individuals and organizations. The tools and techniques Studer created over the years are now staples in healthcare systems throughout the world. St. Joseph's is one of the largest hospitals in Dignity Health, one of the nation's largest healthcare systems. Under Ms. White's leadership, St. Joseph's consistently received local and national awards for quality and patient safety, and continues to be a leading center for neurosciences, transplant services and cancer treatment. Ms. White had been a leader in the Dignity Health Arizona Service Area for more than 30 years. She began her career at St. Joseph's as a cardiovascular nurse, eventually serving as COO, CNO and vice president of operations. <p>Dawn Zell Wright joined CHRISTUS Health in November 2021 as system vice president of human resources operations. She is a collaborative, proactive executive with more than 20 years of human resources, operations and legal management experience. An agile executive, Wright leads change by facilitating the exchange of information and ideas necessary to create and leverage HR/operational synergy across highly matrixed organizations to the benefit of physicians, service partners, patients and the community. She uses evidence-based best practices from various operational platforms to design and implement customized solutions to complex problems.</p> <p>Before joining the CHRISTUS Health leadership team, Wright served UPMC as its vice president of human resources for the Northcentral region of Pennsylvania and CommonSpirit Health as Catholic Health Initiatives Texas Division&#8217;s director of human resources. As a healthcare early careerist, Dawn served as the director of human resources for Artesia General Hospital in New Mexico, where she developed a deep understanding and appreciation of the challenges faced in rural healthcare.</p> <p>Wright&#8217;s human resources expertise is complemented by her experience as an attorney. She was recognized by the local judiciary for tackling tough issues adversely and disproportionately impacting minorities. As a law student, she was a founding team member of The Scholar: St. Mary&#8217;s Law Review on Minority Issues, with a focused resolve of giving a voice to the voiceless by shedding light on issues affecting disadvantaged communities.</p> <p>Wright&#8217;s passion for tackling tough issues related to diversity and inclusion continues to drive her. In this time of rapid change, she is focused on removing artificial barriers to build a sustainable pipeline of diverse and inclusive healthcare leaders.</p> <p>She earned her undergraduate degree in behavioral science from Concordia University Texas, Master of Business Administration from West Texas A&amp;M and Juris Doctor from St. Mary&#8217;s University School of Law. She holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources certification. </p>

<div>Gary Yates is a partner with Press Ganey Strategic Consulting. He is the former president of Healthcare Performance Improvement LLC and senior vice president/CMO for Sentara Healthcare, where his responsibilities included the clinical effectiveness programs, patient safety programs, physician integration efforts and medical management initiatives for Sentara&#8217;s hospital system and health plan. <p> Ra&#250;l Zambrano is a senior consultant for The Greeley Company. Previously, Dr. Zambrano served as a senior medical director for Oak Street Health; a CMO for Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.; for Aurora Healthcare in Kenosha, Wis.; deputy and interim CMO for VISN 7 in Georgia; and the chief of staff at the West Texas VA Health Care System. Dr. Zambrano received his Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University in New York, Master of Science in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his MD from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. Dr. Zambrano is board certified in family medicine. He served in the United States Army Reserve from 2001&#8211;2012 with four deployments.</p>

<div>Leslie Zun is medical director, Lake County Health Department, Waukegan, Ill. He is also chairman/professor, department of emergency medicine, with a secondary appointment in the department of psychiatry, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science's Chicago Medical School, North Chicago, Ill. He is chief editor of the textbook Behavioral Emergencies for Healthcare Providers and course director for the past nine years for the American Association for Emergency Psychiatry's Annual National Update on Behavioral Emergencies conference. Prior to his current role, Dr. Zun was past president of the AAEP and a board member of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
