Charles R. Evans, FACHE, is president and CEO, International Health Services Group (IHSG), Alpharetta, Ga.
He also serves as the 2009-2010 Chairman of the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society of 30,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems and other healthcare organizations. With comprehensive programs in credentialing, education, career counseling, publications and research, ACHE works toward its goal of being the premier professional society for healthcare executives dedicated to improving healthcare delivery.
Board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow, Evans previously served as an ACHE Governor from 2004 to 2007. He has been president and CEO of IHSG since 2007. Evans founded the social enterprise IHSG to support health services development in underserved areas of the world.
Evans serves on numerous boards, including MedShare International and Jackson Healthcare. In addition, he has served on state hospital association boards in Georgia, Tennessee and Florida. Evans also is clinical assistant professor of Family and Preventive Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine and holds an appointment as an adjunct faculty member at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
Before his current position, Evans served as president—Eastern Group of Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America (HCA). Prior to joining HCA, he served in executive roles at Memorial Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla., and Community Hospitals in Indianapolis. Evans received his MBA from Indiana University School of Business, a master of arts degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and his bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Christopher D. Van Gorder, FACHE, is president and chief executive officer, Scripps Health, San Diego.
Board certified in healthcare management and an ACHE Fellow, he also serves as the 2009-2010 Chairman-Elect of the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society of 30,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems and other healthcare organizations. With comprehensive programs in credentialing, education, career counseling, publications and research, ACHE works toward its goal of being the premier professional society for healthcare executives dedicated to improving healthcare delivery.
Mr. Van Gorder has served as president and chief executive officer for Scripps Health since 2000. Scripps Health is a nonprofit, integrated healthcare delivery system with five acute-care hospitals, Scripps Clinic, an ambulatory care network and more than 2,600 affiliated physicians. Mr. Van Gorder’s responsibilities include all functions of the $1.6 billion corporation.
From 1999 to 2000, Mr. Van Gorder served Scripps Health as chief of Healthcare Operations. Prior to joining Scripps Health, he served Memorial Health Services (MHS) in Long Beach, Calif., as executive vice president of MHS (1996-1999), chief executive officer of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center (1997-1999) and president and chief executive officer of Anaheim Memorial Medical Center (1995-1997).
Mr. Van Gorder serves as a commissioner on the California Emergency Services Commission and is serving his second term as a commissioner for the United States National Commission for UNESCO. He is also an editorial board member for The Governance Institute and is on the board of directors of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp.
He is a clinical professor in health administration at the University of Southern California, where he also serves on the Healthcare Administration Advisory Board of the university’s School of Policy, Planning and Development. In addition, he is a reserve commander in the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue Unit and a licensed emergency medical technician.
Mr. Van Gorder received his master’s degree in public health and health services administration from the University of Southern California and his bachelor’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles. He completed the Program for Healthcare System Chief Executive Officers of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

David A. Rubenstein, FACHE, is a Major General in the U.S. Army.
He also serves as the 2009-2010 Immediate Past Chairman of the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society of more than 30,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems and other healthcare organizations. With comprehensive programs in credentialing, education, career counseling, publications and research, ACHE works toward its goal of being the premier professional society for healthcare executives dedicated to improving healthcare delivery.
Board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow, General Rubenstein was an ACHE Governor from 2002-2006 and the ACHE Regent for the Army—Western Region from 2000 to 2002.
Prior to his current appointment, General Rubenstein was the Commanding General, Europe Medical Command, and Command Surgeon, U.S. Army Europe. He was previously the Army's Assistant Surgeon General for Force Sustainment, the commander of the 30th Medical Brigade and Command Surgeon of the V U.S. Corps in Heidelberg, Germany, the commander (CEO) of Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (Germany) and the 21st Combat Support Hospital in Killeen, Texas, and on deployment to Bosnia and Herzegovina. He served as deputy commander for administration (COO) at the Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, Ga., from 1997 to 1999 and has held positions with Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash.; 18th Surgical Hospital, also at Tacoma; and DeWitt Army Community Hospital in Alexandria, Va. Other positions he has held include administrative assistant to the Chief, Medical Service Corps, Office of the Surgeon General, Washington, D.C., and instructor for the Combined Arms Branch and Field Medical Support Branch, Military Science Division, at the Academy of Health Sciences, Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio. He began his career in 1977 as medical platoon leader in Aschaffenburg, Germany.
General Rubenstein is a member of the American Hospital Association, Association of the United States Army, Association of Military Surgeons of the United States (AMSUS), and Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. He has been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Order of Military Medical Merit, Ray E. Brown Award from AMSUS, and Federal Excellence in Healthcare Leadership Award, which was presented by ACHE's then District 8. He has twice been named in Modern Healthcare’s list of the 100 most influential people in healthcare.
General Rubenstein received his master’s degree in health administration from Baylor University, Waco, Texas, and his master’s degree in military art and science from Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He received his bachelor’s degree in community health education from Texas A&M University at College Station.

Thomas C. Dolan, PhD, FACHE, CAE, is president and chief executive officer of the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society of more than 30,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems, and other healthcare organizations. With comprehensive programs in credentialing, education, career counseling, publications, and research, ACHE works toward its goal of being the premier professional society for healthcare executives dedicated to improving healthcare delivery.
Before his appointment as president and CEO, Dr. Dolan served as ACHE’s executive vice president. Prior to joining ACHE, he held a variety of teaching, research, and administrative positions at St. Louis University, the University of Missouri-Columbia, the University of Washington, and the University of Iowa.
He has served as chair of the American Society of Association Executives, Association of University Programs in Health Administration, the Association Forum of Chicagoland, and the Institute for Diversity in Health Management. He has also served as president of the Mental Health Association in Missouri and as a member of the board of trustees of Alexian Brothers Hospital in St. Louis. Dr. Dolan currently serves on the governing council of the International Hospital Federation and the Association Committee of 100 of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
He is board certified in healthcare management and a Fellow of both the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Society of Association Executives. Dr. Dolan is also a Certified Association Executive. He received his doctorate in hospital and health administration from the University of Iowa and his bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Chicago.
