The Fund for Healthcare Leadership

History

The Fund was established in 2006 to bring innovation to the forefront of healthcare leadership. Since then, the Fund has worked to strengthen the field of healthcare leadership through educational programs and scholarships. From 2007–2016, donations to the Fund were used to establish educational programs that promoted or built awareness around key areas of focus.

Today

The Fund for Healthcare Leadership continues to provide scholarships to robust programs that inspire tomorrow's leaders. Scholarships are designed for those whose organizations may lack the resources to fully fund their tuition. The Executive Program invite healthcare leaders to learn, share and grow together during three intensive sessions. The programs provide practical leadership strategies through the use of case studies, personal assessments, panel discussions and site visits on operational excellence. The format is designed to accelerate this high-level executive learning experience. To find out more or to apply to Executive Program, please click here.

In addition to our program scholarships, we also provide funding to the Thomas C. Dolan Diversity in Executive Leadership Program. This program addresses the well-documented gap between diversity of the C-suite and the diversity of the communities being served by preparing mid- and senior-level careerists from underrepresented groups to ascend to the C-suite of hospitals, health systems and other healthcare organizations.

Impact on Diversity in Executive Leadership Scholars:

Roxanne R. RosaAstrid Gonzalez Parrilla, FACHE

Vice President, Operations
Halifax Health│Brooks Rehabilitation

The impact of the Thomas C. Dolan Diversity in Executive Leadership Program on my life has been invaluable. I entered the program as an accomplished professional and finished as an empowered and confident diverse healthcare executive. The competencies and skills acquired during my year in the program prepared me to accept a larger scope of responsibility at work, which led to a promotion. Being a part of such a prestigious program also gave me visibility in my local community and professional circles. There have been many more measurable outcomes, but the most important ones are intangible. I have become a more reflective practitioner, and I have embraced the fact that being a diverse executive is an advantage.

The relationships and friendships built during the year-long program will last beyond any boundaries. During the unprecedented events of the COVID-19 pandemic, my Dolan program colleagues have served as a resource and support during difficult days. Today, more than ever, our contributions to our profession will determine the future of care delivery. Because of the program and the support of ACHE, I am confident we will be able to develop a more effective care delivery model. The Thomas C. Dolan Executive Diversity Program could be seen as a professional investment, but for me, it is a gift that will be everlasting.

Impact on Executive Program Scholarship Recipients:

Wing K. Chan, FACHEWing K. Chan, FACHE

Director, Regional Operations
UnityPoint Health

Earlier this year, Madison, Wisc.-based Meriter Health Services made plans to partner with Des Moines, Iowa-based UnityPoint Health. Wing Chan, Director of Physician Services, Meriter Health Services, understood this transformation would mean many changes and challenges that would necessitate strong leaders who could guide physicians, staff and colleagues through transition. The opportunity afforded by ACHE's Executive Program—designed to equip the next generation of healthcare leaders with essential management and operational skills to move into senior leadership positions—drew Chan to the program. "I was intrigued by the opportunity to learn practical leadership strategies and build meaningful professional connections," says Chan. "[Meriter Medical Group] will be faced with changing roles and alignment of culture and strategy, so learning concepts that ensure high performance is extremely relevant for me."

As a Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. scholarship recipient, Chan was, indeed, able to attend ACHE's Executive Program. "Receiving the scholarship has given me the unique opportunity to participate in a high-quality, robust, professional development program I may not have been able to participate in without support due to limited—financial resources," Chan says.

For Chan, attending the program benefited not only himself, but also his organization and the community. "For my organization, I'm able to bring back key concepts and learnings, and apply those to real-time situations we face," Chan remarks. "Incorporating those learnings and strategies will help Meriter to deliver high- quality, efficient care, which will benefit and drive high value to our patients and community."

Director HIM & Privacy Officer
St Rose Hospital

St. Rose Hospital in Hayward, Calif., is a safety-net hospital, serving a mostly uninsured population in a community facing growing unemployment rates. A daily challenge for Solomon Eboigbodin, St. Rose's director, HIM, and privacy officer, is to effectively use the hospital's limited resources to ensure that accurate health records are available on demand.

Eboigbodin chose healthcare management as a profession because he liked the idea of working collaboratively with medical and auxiliary staff to find innovative ways to offer outstanding patient care efficiently and effectively. As he progressed in his career, he realized that continuously seeking new knowledge was integral to enhancing the value he brought to tackling challenges at St. Rose and to his own professional goals. "The one constant in the healthcare industry is change, and to effectively deal with the challenges of our changing environment, we must rely on relevant education growth," says Eboigbodin.

As a Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. scholarship recipient, Eboigbodin was able to attend ACHE's Executive Program, which is designed to equip the next generation of healthcare leaders with essential management and operational skills to move into senior leadership positions. "The Executive Program has given me the knowledge and confidence I need to be a servant leader and an asset to my organization," he says. "In addition, the credits earned from this program can be applied to my Fellowship credential, leading to even more opportunities and keeping me on track for more challenging positions in the future."
