Demonstrating the value of our services and promoting effective transitions of care when the financial incentives have not caught up is a significant challenge for our organization. Difficulty implementing technology and ineffective use of EHRs create barriers for safe care transitions.

Healthcare leaders need to have the talent to devise and act on innovative solutions to operational, organizational and external problems. Leadership is about creating a vision and having the skills to crystallize that vision in the hearts and minds of the people tasked to execute it. Leaders need to empower employees to create an environment that promotes collaboration and a sense of shared ownership, and the innovation to meet demand for exceptional patient care.

As an early careerist it was difficult for me to network, but my mentor, an ACHE Fellow, encouraged me to volunteer with the local chapter. It provided me with the perfect learning environment. I developed lasting relationships with healthcare leaders who are as passionate as I am about advancing our field. Becoming board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow has boosted my confidence and earned the respect of my colleagues.

Effective care transitions and interdisciplinary collaboration have been key for the success of the rehabilitation service line and the partnership of providers across the care continuum. They also help us meet the enhanced demands for efficiencies and effectiveness of performance in response to the transition from volume to value of care.
